Hail Damage Roof Insurance Claims in Idaho: A Homeowner's Guide
This is general information, not legal or insurance advice. Your policy wording controls what is covered.
After the storm
Write down the date of the storm and take photos from the ground: dented gutters, downspouts, vents, and window screens, and any granules that have washed out.
Stay off the roof. A contractor or adjuster can inspect it safely.
Read your policy's declarations page. Look at your deductible (some policies have a separate wind/hail deductible), whether the roof is covered at replacement cost or actual cash value, and any deadline for reporting a claim.
If you suspect damage, report it to your insurer promptly.
Working with adjusters and contractors
You can ask the contractor to attend the adjuster's inspection.
Keep copies of every estimate, photo, and letter.
Be careful with anyone who offers to "cover your deductible." Ask your insurer or an attorney before agreeing to anything like that.
If you disagree with the claim decision, ask the insurer how its appeal or appraisal process works. The Idaho Department of Insurance provides consumer help.
